Thessa Malau’ulu joined the CBU Softball coaching staff in 2025 as part of head coach Brandon Telesco’s inaugural coaching staff.
A Long Beach native, Malau’ulu returns to the college softball scene in Southern California, as she was a four-year player at UCLA. With the Bruins (2021 – 2024), Malau’ulu appeared in 133 games (103 starts), with 102 starts coming at third base. She posted a .284 batting average, .362 on-base percentage, and .325 slugging percentage. Malau’ulu drove in 25 runs for the Bruins and scored 62.
During her run in Westwood, the Bruins reached the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma three times (2021, 2022, 2024), including a run to the semifinals in 2022.
After her time with the Bruins ended, Malau’ulu continued her softball career as a graduate student at Duke University in North Carolina. In her one season with the Blue Devils, Malau’ulu hit .367 with five home runs and 37 RBI.
Malau’ulu also succeeded on the defensive end while in Durham, as she was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year in 2025. Malau’ulu started all 52 games while at Duke and posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in conference games.
Malau’ulu graduated with her bachelor’s degree in psychology from UCLA in 2024.
