RIVERSIDE--- It was a successful senior night on Sunday evening at the CBU Soccer Stadium as the California Baptist women's soccer program welcomed Southern Utah for the final home match of the season. The Lancers greeted the Thunderbirds with three goals in the first half that led to the 3-0 victory, improving CBU's record to 10-7-1 this season and 6-2 in Western Athletic Conference play.
"To start the game our touches were a little rough but that was excitement for senior nigh. Credit to our players for cleaning up their touches and shifting gears to control the game. No question this was a dominant performance from beginning to end. Tonight we wanted to earn 3 points, honor our seniors, finish our final home game with a dominant performance and we certainly did that," said Head Coach Kristen St. Clair. "Great goals by Ava Westlund, Jess Ramirez and Kaylee Hauck. Our attack is making good progress as evidenced by three different goal scorers and three different scoring scenarios. I thought we could have had quite a few more but we had some shots hit the post or were slightly off the mark. Our defense was locked down, earning the shutout and disrupting any attack our opponent tried to put tighter. I'm proud if this team and now we turn our attention to preparing for our final regular season road trip."
It took the Lancers no time to settle in and find the cracks in SUU's defense as Anja Jestrovic connected with Ava Westlund for the first goal of the match in the fifth minute via a header from Jestrovic's cross. The dominant duo would also aid in the second goal, after Jessica Ramirez found the back of the net with another header off a set piece. The final goal of the first half came from Kaylee Hauck for a fitting senior night celebration, earning her fourth goal of the season with a perfectly placed low shot on the left side.
The Lancers used the second half to gain some experience for their younger players in the program, and the underclassmen did well pressuring the SUU backline, but could not increase the Lancer lead. CBU did well to get creative in the final third and outshot the Thunderbirds 18-9, while posting a quiet day for the Lancer goalkeepers who made just four saves across the 90 minutes.
We are grateful for the investment each of our 8 seniors have made to this CBU family during their time at CBU:

The senior celebration and 3-0 victory over Southern Utah mark the final home match of the season for the Lancers. California Baptist will now begin preparing for the final two Texas road trip games before returning to Utah for the WAC Tournament hosted by Utah Valley.
