RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University softball is hotter than ever in the Division I era, topping UC San Diego 7-0 and Syracuse 8-2 on Saturday to push their DI era-best win streak to eight in a row. The Lancers stand at 14-9 on the season, a week from beginning conference play.
GAME ONE: CBU 7 – UCSD 0
The Lancers small-balled the Tritons into the ground to open play on Saturday. Every Lancer score was either scored on a single, a ground out, or taking advantage of a Triton mistake on the base paths. Heads up base running from Sydney Soto got the Lancers on the board first as she scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first. Karmyna Becerra put one in play in the very next at bat, scoring Maya Martinez to take a two-run lead.
A fourth-inning single from Amanda Bricker made it 3-0 in favor of the Lancers, plating Samantha Demyon. Soto was on the other side of the score in the fifth inning, earning an RBI with a single that brought home Molly Kolander. Soto would later score again, along with Priscilla Estrada, on Becerra's second RBI of the game. Deja Westbrook brought in the final score for the Lancers in the bottom of the sixth, singling as a pinch hitter to score pinch runner Aubrey Chavez from second.

Alyssa Argomaniz started the game in the circle, going 2.2 innings before getting swapped for Morgan McConnell. McConnell would earn the win with 3.1 innings of work, allowing just one hit while striking out one. She improves to 3-4 on the season and drops her ERA down to 2.98. Freshman Carly Limosnero saw her first action as a Lancer, closing out the final inning for the Lancers, allowing no hits, and striking out one in the top of the seventh.
GAME TWO: CBU 8 – SYRACUSE 2
Game two showed the versatility of the CBU offense as Martinez loudly scored first by taking the third pitch she saw over the left field fence for her second homer of the season. Estrada would double the Lancer lead in the bottom of the third, scoring on a passed ball from the Orange.

Becerra would work a walk to load the bases in the next at-bat. That turned into two more runs as Amanda Bricker patiently collected on RBI on a four-pitch walk, followed immediately by Kolander taking a pitch to the forearm to bring in another score, making it 4-0 Lancers.
The Orange would get two back in the top of the fourth, but CBU sealed it with four more runs spread amongst the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings off of doubles from Becerra and Kolander and a single from Soto.
Jazmine Castaneda went the full seven innings in Saturday's finale, sitting down the first nine Orange to come to the plate. She allowed just five hits and no earned runs while striking out five. She is now 4-1 on the year and currently holds a sub-2 ERA, checking on with a 1.98 ERA after Saturday's win.
CBU closes out the Lance Up Invite with one more game on Sunday, taking on the Crimson from Harvard University with first pitch slotted for 12:30 p.m.
