Smith Grabs More Honors

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — California Baptist University's Michael Smith continued to grab postseason accolades, weeks after the season has ended. The senior guard was announced as one of the 10 finalists for the Second Annual Bevo Francis Award by Small College Basketball, while also being named to the Division II Bulletin and Basketball Times All-American teams.
The finalists for the Bevo Francis Award consists of the finest men's basketball players in the country who compete in the affiliations of NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA Division I, NAIA Division II, USCAA and NCCAA. The committee chose this elite group from over 1,100 colleges and universities and took into consideration individual statistics, awards, milestones and team success. Smith finished a stellar four-year career as a Lancer in March, becoming the all-time leading scorer both at CBU and in the PacWest with 2,031 career points. The South San Francisco, Calif., native boasted the nation's third-best scoring average with 24.9 points per game.
Carried over from last year, Smith scored in double figures in 40-straight games, with 22 games of scoring 20 or more points. He scored a career-high 42 points against UC San Diego, before finishing with 39 points against the Tritons in the West Region semifinal game.
