RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- In between studying and competing, California Baptist University athletes found the time to reach out to the community.

Saturday January 14, six CBU athletic teams made the trip to the YMCA at 4020 Jefferson St. in Riverside, Calif., to participate in volunteer work with the children.

"The highlight of my day was when me and five or six other guys on the volleyball team joined teams with some children and started a very large NERF gun war," men's volleyball setter Andrew Bowman said.

Athletes took turns serving two-hour shifts at the YMCA performing various tasks including playing games, teaching cheer to the children at the center and doing whatever else the YMCA wanted them to do.

"At first I didn't really want to go," Bowman said. "Once we arrived and began to meet and hang out with the kids, though, I very much enjoyed myself."

The cross country, golf and volleyball teams participated in Saturday's activities and more teams will be putting on clinics at the YMCA later this Spring.
