ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. --- The Lancers closed out the Lamkin Grip/Cal Poly Invitational Tuesday, holding on for an eighth place finish.
CBU finished day two 10 strokes lower than Monday's round, shooting a 327 to finish alone in eighth, after starting the day tied with Southern Utah. Southern Utah shot a 329 Tuesday. The Lancers finished at 664 (337-327).
"It wasn't our best effort and wasn't our worst," said Head Coach Lane Pace. "We only had one Division II team finish ahead of us, but we still know we are capable of better scores than that."
Santa Clara (628) got the wire-to-wire victory, shooting a tournament-low 309 in the final round. The next closest team was Cal State Northridge eight strokes back at 636. Host Cal Poly finished in a tie for third with Grand Canyon at 638.
Nathalie Silva posted the low round of the day for CBU shooting a 79. Silva (84-79) and Kirsten Keyser (83-80) each shot 163 to finish in a tie for 24th. Nicollette Gino finished at 168 (85-83), Samantha Roberts finished at 170 (85-85) and Kayla Jech at 193 (94-99).
"We never adjusted to the fast greens on this course and that showed," said Pace. "You have to be able to make quick adjustments in tournaments like this and that's something we'll work on over the winter."
The Lancers conclude their fall season with the tournament and will resume play in February at the Super San Diego Championships hosted by Point Loma Nazarene. CBU finished in the Top 10 of every tournament it competed in this fall, with two second place finishes.
