RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- California Baptist University won seven matches, three by major decision, to roll its way to a 27-12 win over the NAIA's No. 10-ranked Menlo Saturday in a dual match in the Van Dyne Gym.

The victory over the nationally-ranked Oaks was an impressive end to a busy day where the Lancers went 1-2 with losses to NCAA Division I Air Force (43-3) and Cal State Fullerton (38-4).

The Lancers move to 4-8 in dual matches. It is their second win this year over Menlo as they squeaked out a 21-18 win in the dual season opener Dec. 17.

Bronson Gerl (165) won twice for the Lancers. He picked up the lone points in the Cal State Fullerton match with a 10-2 major decision over Bryce Whitehead and then increased the Lancer lead over the Oaks to 20-3 with an 11-2 major decision over Adam Obad.

Younger brother Caleb Gerl also recorded a major decision against Menlo with an 8-0 blanking of Hanna Malak at 184. Landon Saldana also earned a major decision with a 10-2 win over Drake Medeiros at 133.

Jimmy Martinez (125), Ethan Hall (141) and Anthony Meza (197) all earned decisions over Menlo, while Chris Santana picked up a six-point forfeit at 157. Martinez's 3-2 win came over Jason Moorhouse, the NAIA's top-ranked wrestler at 133, who wrestled at 125 this afternoon.

In the first match of the day, Santana picked up the Lancers' lone points against an Air Force team that went a perfect 3-0 on its West Coast swing. The Falcons defeated Cal State Fullerton last night as well as Menlo today in Riverside. They recorded five falls and a major decision over the Lancers. Santana earned an 8-4 decision over Alec Williams for the Lancers' lone points of the match.

In the match against Cal State Fullerton, the Lancers fell in an early 20-0 hole after five matches, but three of those five matches were decided by three points or less.
