California Baptist d. Trinity International, 93-50 (Part I)
RIVERSIDE, Calif. — It was anything but pretty, but California Baptist University managed to fight through 27 turnovers to put away Trinity International (Ill.), 93-50, in a non-conference game Tuesday night.

The Lancers (7-4) picked up their second largest win of the year and their third 40-point win of the season.

Five Lancers scored in double figures with Heather Couzens leading the way with 20. The senior forward went 9-for-13 from the field, 2-for-3 from 3-point range and pulled down six rebounds. Elisha Taylor finished with 13 points, 11 of which came in the first half in just 11 minutes of floor time. Kendra Morris also added 12 points and dished out three assists. Nikki Johnson and Megan Bradford each scored 11 with Bradford tying a career-high for assists with six.

The Lancers went 31-for-69 (.449) from the field and 8-of-18 (.444) from downtown. There were 66 total turnovers between the two teams as the Trojans handed CBU the ball 39 times. CBU scored nearly half of its points off of turnovers with 46. The Lancer bench also out scored TIU’s bench, 45-14.

CBU didn’t hold a lead bigger than seven points through the first 15:23 in the game. CBU led just 29-24 with 5:21 left in the first half before an 8-0 run gave the Lancers a 37-24 lead. Trinity never got back within single digits. The closest the Trojans came from that point on was 39-29 before the Lancers took a 45-31 lead at the half.

The Lancers opened the second half with a 25-5 run to take a 70-36 lead with 11:53 to play. CBU led 77-44 before a 9-0 run capped by a Morris jumper game the Lancers an 86-45 lead with 3:50 left. The Lancers took their biggest lead with 44 seconds left at 93-49 on a Johnson layup.

CBU will finalize its non-conference season Wednesday with a 6 p.m. contest with Michigan-Dearborn.
