RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Taylor Siemens allowed just one run and struck out six in 6.2 innings, and California Baptist University used a four-run fifth to surge past Cal State San Bernardino, 7-1, in a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon at Totman Stadium.
The win moves the Lancers to 4-1 overall. The Coyotes fall to 0-1. Siemens (2-0) scattered six hits and didn’t allow a run until the seventh inning after giving up a two-out RBI double. He was then lifted in favor of Mike Barro, who combined with Zach Hedges, got the final seven outs without allowing a Coyote to reach base. Cole Bullard was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, Matt Marnati was 2-for-4, and Matt Johnson hit his second home run of the season, a solo shot in the sixth. The Lancers scored their first two runs on a pair of Coyote errors in the second and third. Bullard singled to lead off the second, stole second and then scored on an error by Coyote shortstop Kyle Davis. In the third Brian Sharp had a one-out single, stole second and then scored on an error by Coyote right fielder Julio Torres. With a 2-0 lead in hand, the Lancers began to put the game out of reach with their four-run fifth. Sharp and Sharif Othman drew walks before Bullard and Drew Madrigal had consecutive run-scoring singles. Bullard scored on another Coyote error as pinch-runner Ryan Douglass was attempting to steal second. Garrett Rau finished the flurry with an RBI single to give the Lancers a 6-0 lead. Johnson’s solo shot with one out in the sixth made it 7-0 before the Coyotes tacked on their lone run in the top of the seventh. |
