DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. --- For the first time in California Baptist University history the Lancers finished in the Top 5 at the National Cheerleaders Association College Nationals in Daytona Beach, Fla.
“This was an amazing week of firsts for our team,” said Head Coach Tammi Flemming. “It was the first time in school history that we qualified for the finals directly from the preliminary round and the first time we finished in the Top 5.”
After finishing outside of the Top 10 and having to compete their way into the finals last season, CBU finished in seventh in the preliminary round and earned the automatic bid into the finals.
The Lancers only improved from there, scoring an 8.575 on the final day, to move up two spots to fifth. It was the first time the Lancers had scored better than 8.0 at the competition.
Winning the competition was Bridgewater State with a day two score of 9.265. The top five teams were separated by less than a single point. CBU finished 0.2 better than the sixth place team in the finals.
