The Lancers opened the morning with a 298, but stumbled in the afternoon, shooting 312 to finish the day at 610.
"We showed signs of playing well in the morning, but I think got tired and lost our focus in the afternoon," said Head Coach Lane Pace. "This is really the who's who field of the year and if we get it together we can make a run at the Top 10 still."
CBU is 16 strokes behind both No. 11 Grand Canyon and No. 19 Cal State Monterey Bay who are tied for ninth.
Fredrik Hansson led the way for CBU shooting a 149 (74-75), both Leonard Rooney (71-82) and Stephen Watson (76-77) each shot 153 and Micah Machado shot 155 (77-78). Tim Tait posted a 160 (78-82).
Tournament host No. 3 Cal State Stanislaus leads the 20-team field at 568 (282-286), 11 strokes ahead of No. 10 Western Washington (579) and 17 up on No. 5 Chico State (585).
"Tomorrow isn't as much about where we finish, but a preparation for the PacWest Championship next week," said Pace, whose team travels to Kona, Hawaii next week for the conference tournament. "We need to use today as a learning experience and work on what we did wrong tomorrow in preparation for next week."
The field will finish its final round tomorrow morning.
