BAKERSFIELD, Calif. --- California Baptist University posted the third best final round at the Cal State Bakersfield Invitational, but it was not enough to move out of ninth place as CBU finished where it started.
The Lancers finished at 895 (293-306-296) for the tournament. Their final round 296 on Tuesday was only bested by eventual winner College of the Canyons at 294 and Point Loma Nazarene, who had the low round of the day at 289, to finish second. Sonoma State matched CBU’s 296 on Tuesday to finish third.
“We just were not able to overcome our second round,” said Head Coach Lane Pace, referring to the 306 his team put up Monday afternoon. “The guys played ok today. They need to realize we have to be focused each and every round.”
Fredrik Hansson finished in a tie for 21st to lead CBU with a 222 (74-73-75) and Micah Machado finished tied for 27th at 223 (75-74-74). Chris Rabbich posted the low round of the day for CBU with a 72 on Tuesday, finishing at 225 (80-73-72). Leonard Rooney at 227 (77-73-77) and O'Neill Cowan at 232 (81-76-75) rounded out the five for the Lancers.
“We need to keep working and stay focused,” said Pace. “There are three tournaments left before the National Qualifier and we have to play well at each one. There is some work to be done, but I believe the guys can do it.”
The Lancers have a two week break before traveling to Jamul, Calif. for the Smee Builders Intercollegiate, hosted by Point Loma Nazarene.
