RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Five Lancers have been nominated in the latest The Press-Enterprise Performer of the Week poll.
Wrestler Kenneth Tribble, was nominated after winning the 174-pound weight class at the 2011 National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA) Western Conference Tournament. Tribble entered the tournament as the No. 4 seed and pinned No. 1 seed and defending champion Ryan Tyhurst of UC Santa Barbara as well as pinning No. 2 Koji Jagust of San Jose State University on his way to the title. Tribble wrapped up a berth to the 2011 NCWA National Championships.
Drew Madrigal, a senior right-hander from Menifee who was the GSAC Pitcher of the Year last season, tossed eight shutout innings to lead the No. 3-ranked Lancers to a 5-0 conference victory at Concordia last Thursday. Madrigal scattered five singles and strick out six in the victory.
S.J. Simmons led the Lancers’ women’s basketball team in assists and rebounds last week, and was the third leading scorer in No. 5 CBU's two wins. She scored 14 points in a road win over Concordia and then posted a triple-double at home against Fresno Pacific with 12 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists.
Sara Koizumi finished second individually at the Pala Mesa Women’s Intercollegiate last week, shooting a 159 to lead the top-ranked Lancers. She helped CBU come back and win the tournament after trailing by 10 strokes going into the final round.
Levi Cabral helped the No. 1-ranked Lancers to two five-set wins over No. 2 Lindenwood last week. He led the team with 44 kills (4.40 kps) and hit .366 in his 10 sets played. Cabral also posted 12 digs, three aces and five blocking assists. He closed out the team’s comeback win Saturday, with two straight kills in the fifth set.
