RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Four Lancers have been nominated in the latest The Press-Enterprise Performer of the Week poll, for their play Nov. 1-7.
Katie Rumfola was nominated for women’s soccer, Jessica Kalama for women’s volleyball, Hannah Braun for swimming and diving and Chris Toy for men’s water polo.
Rumfola, a freshman goalkeeper from Fullerton, came up with a huge save of a penalty kick in the fifth round of the shootout against No. 7-ranked The Master's, setting up Jacquelyn Witz's goal to put Cal Baptist in its first GSAC tournament final. In her third and fourth career starts, Rumfola gave up just two goals in 200 minutes of action and made 14 saves, nine against The Master's.
Kalama, a junior opposite hitter from Torrance, had 13 kills and 21 digs in two victories last week. In No. 5 CBU's biggest victory of the year, the Lancers defeated No. 3 Fresno Pacific 3-0 on the road to end the Sunbirds 122-match home winning streak, for its second win of the week. In the victory Kalama recorded 9 kills, hitting.333, and had 13 digs.
Hannah Braun, Cal Baptist women's swimming. Braun, a junior from Keizer, Ore., took three top finishes, winning the 200 freestyle (1;57.7), 200 backstroke(2:10.35) and the 400 IM (4:39.76) in a winning effort against Redlands.
Toy, a junior from Burnaby, B.C., scored 5 goals in two matches for the No. 16 Lancers, victories over No. 19 Air Force and Concordia that boosted Cal Baptist's record to 30-5 going into this weekend's NAIA National Invite at the Lancers' pool.
