RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- California Baptist University has three athletes nominated in the latest The Press Enterprise Performer of the Week poll.
Dan Kelly (men’s soccer), Ashley Richardson (women’s soccer) and Ingrid Carmona (women’s volleyball) were all nominated for their performances Oct. 11-18. Each Tuesday fans and readers of The Press-Enterprise have an opportunity to vote for their favorite Performer of the Week.
Kelly, a senior goaltender from Temecula, Calif., made his second start of the season and first since Aug. 26, shutting out No. 15 Azusa Pacific to give the Lancers their first win over the Cougars since 1999 and sole possession of first place in the GSAC with three games to go. He was named GSAC men's defensive player of the week.
Richardson, a freshman, scored her first career goal 3:40 into overtime to lift CBU to a 2-1 win over No. 2 Azusa Pacific, snapping the Cougars' 23-game unbeaten streak dating back to 1995 over the Lancers. It came on just her second shot of the season, and earned her GSAC women's offensive player of the week honors.
Carmona, a sophomore from Santo Domingo, D.R., led the Lancers to a significant bounce-back victory over Westmont, two nights after a tough five-set loss at Azusa Pacific. She had her sixth double-double of the season with 20 kills and 25 digs. For the week she led the Lancers in kills (36), was second in digs (29) and third in total blocks (9). It is the fourth straight week Carmona has led the team in kills and been either first or second in digs.
