RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- California Baptist University freshman baseball player Rudy Ledesma was killed Sept. 24 in a single-vehicle fatality accident on the 91 freeway in Corona, Calif.
Ledesma was pronounced dead at 3:05 a.m. about 30 minutes after his 2001 Dodge Dakota hit a guardrail, flipped and smashed into a concrete pillar, according to authorities. He was returning to campus after visiting with a friend.
The 18-year-old collegiate freshman was an Anaheim native and had begun fall workouts with the Lancers' baseball team. He graduated from Cypress High School in 2011 where he was a two-time all-league selection while leading Cypress to a pair of Empire League championships.
"We are deeply saddened by this tragedy and the loss of one of our family members," said CBU Director of Athletics Dr. Micah Parker. "Our thoughts and our prayers are with Rudy's family during this difficult time."
