BELMONT, Calif. --- Two days after winning a blowout and losing a tight ball game to Notre Dame de Namur, California Baptist University flipped the script Monday, sweeping a doubleheader with an eighth inning and then five-run win.

The Lancers won 3-2 (8 innings) in the early game and then took the late game 9-4 to move to 21-4 overall, 7-3 PacWest.

CBU narrowly avoided defeat in the opener, entering the final frame down 2-1 and getting down to its final out. With two outs and Marshean August on third, Mara Rodriguez stepped up and doubled her in to even the game and send it to extra innings.

In the eighth it was Tina Galinato's turn, blasting a solo-shot to put the Lancers up 3-2 and eventually give them the win. Emma Holden came in to throw her eighth inning, closing the win out with a 1-2-3 final frame.

Galinato was 3-for-3 in the game, with two runs scored and an RBI. The senior right fielder was 6-for-6 overall on the day, driving in four runs. Rodriguez was 5-for-6 with five RBI overall, going 3-for-4 in the opener. Galinato leads the team with a .444 batting average after Monday.

"It was great to pull that early game out after giving the last one away," said Head Coach Bill Baber. "Mara hitting that ball was huge and then Tina stepped up and just crushed that ball. Tina is really playing great in all areas of the game and she and Mara just carried us at the plate."

Holden allowed just two hits and two runs, striking out 12 batters to take the win in the opener. She is now 11-2 on the season.

In the late game the Lancers fell behind 1-0 in the first inning, but put up three runs in the third and five more in the fourth to take the lead for good.

Rodriguez and Galinato each doubled in the fourth, with Rodriguez scoring three and Galinato sending two across the plate.

Tory Ferreira took the second game win, throwing a complete game to move to 10-2 on the season.

"We were just anxious to play again today after the week we had," said Baber, whose team was rained out three times last week. "The girls were ready to go and really started hitting the ball in the second game. Now we have to keep up the intensity and focus for tomorrow."

CBU heads to Dominican for another conference doubleheader Tuesday at 12 p.m.
