RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- The 2011 Capital One Academic All-America All-District Softball teams were announced and California Baptist University had three athletes honored.

Caty Reeves and Emma Holden each earned first-team honors in district eight and Kendall Gorham was named to the second-team.

Reeves was one of just two players on the district eight team with a perfect 4.00 grade point average. The senior out of Corvallis, Ore. is an education major and was named to the team as a designated player. Reeves has a .293 batting average with six home runs and 27 RBI this season. She was named GSAC Scholar athlete earlier this month and was the only Lancer last season to earn both GSAC and NAIA Scholar Athlete honors.

Holden, the Lancers’ junior ace, has a 3.62 GPA. Named to the first-team as one of two pitchers, Holden is a liberal studies major. She broke CBU’s single-season and career strikeout records this season with 291 on the season and 646 in her career. Holden is 30-1 on the season and was named GSAC Pitcher of the Year and GSAC Scholar Athlete.

Gorham, the team’s third award winner, was named to the second team as one of three outfielders. The junior from Riverside has a 3.46 GPA as a kinesiology major. Gorham also broke a career mark this season for the Lancers, becoming the program’s all-time leading home run hitter with 49 and counting in her career. She earned her third-straight All-GSAC selection this season.

The Academic All-District Softball Teams were selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The teams recognize the nation’s top student athletes for their combined performance on the floor and in the classroom. The teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. First-team honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
