RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics released the 2010 All-American awards and three Lancers earned nods.
Ingrid Carmona was named to the All-American first team for the second year in a row and Jelena Dragovic and Bree Rauschenbach earned third-team honors.
Carmona, a sophomore opposite hitter, led the team and was 14th in the NAIA with 576 kills on the season. Her 4.61 kills per game were also best on the team. She was third on the team with 328 digs, and led the squad with 14 double-doubles this season. Carmona earned All-GSAC honors this season and was named to the 2010 All-Tournament team.
“Ingrid has had an exceptional season this year,” said Head Coach Ryan McGuyre. “I was most proud of her personal growth and ability to become a leader. She had the ability to take over a match at will and often did just that. I feel blessed to have coached one of the country’s top volleyball players this season.”
Rauschenbach, who was half of the Lancer’s stellar middle blocking tandem, had 135.0 total blocks, a team-high 23 of which were solo blocks. She served up the sixth most aces in the NAIA with 78 and her 0.56 aces per game average was 21st. Rauschenbach had the highest attacking percentage of any Lancer, hitting .364 on her way to 289 kills. She had her best performance of the season in an attempt to will her team to the semifinals, ripping 12 kills, serving 3 aces and recording nine total blocks against Columbia.
“Bree’s All-American performance this season is a product of her determination and incredible work ethic,” said McGuyre. “Her dedication to training and to her teammates made us all better, myself included. She handles pressure like a true professional. She’s a dominating server, one of the best blockers, and a devastating hitter. Combine all that with a goofy yet loving personality and you have a great person too.”
Playing in her first year at CBU, Dragovic had the second highest hitting percentage on the team at .361 and has recorded 252 kills this year. She led the team with 1.00 blocks per game and her 139.0 total blocks were 33rd in the NAIA. She also had the second most aces on the team with 38.
“Jelena played like a senior in her freshman year,” said McGuyre. “She and Bree made each other better and as a result they both became great. Jelena was like having another coach on the court because she understands the game extremely well and communicates well to her teammates. She too thrives under pressure. Jelena is a humble warrior and truly understands how to compete and battle at a high level.”
Rauschenbach and Dragovic were the only two players on the Lancer squad to start 35 matches for the team.
