EL CAJON, Calif. --- No. 6 CBU wasted no time bouncing back from its loss at Cal State San Bernardino, sweeping San Diego Christian 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-15) Saturday night.
The Lancers dominated the Hawks in every facet of the game, ending the match in just over an hour.
CBU hit over .350 for the seventh time this season and held its opponent to a negative attacking percentage for just the second time this year. The Lancers hit .355 and the Hawks hit -.106 on the night. CBU also held Sioux Falls (-.098) to a negative hitting percentage in the first match of the year.
The Lancers had runs of 6, 9 and 7 points in each set to take control of the game and bury the home team early.
San Diego Christian’s only leads came early in the second set. The two teams traded the lead back and forth until it was tied 13-13. CBU then went on its longest run of the match, rattling off nine straight points to effectively end the match.
CBU had 36 kills, while San Diego Christian had only 16. The Lancers also held an edge in digs (38-30), total blocks (10.5-4) and service aces (5-2). The only Hawk who had more kills than errors was Stephanie Rice, who recorded one kill on one attempt.
It was a total team effort for CBU, as all 13 Lancers on the roster got in the match. Five Lancers recorded five or more kills, with Ingrid Carmona leading the way with nine. Linjun Ji ripped six kills on seven attempts without an error to post an .857 hitting percentage.
CBU continued its trend of following each of its four losses with a decisive win. The Lancers do not have a losing streak this season.
The Lancers improve to 24-4 overall, 11-3 GSAC on the season, while San Diego Christian falls to 8-15, 1-13.
