OAKLAND, Calif. --- Zach Esquerra's team-leading 17th home run broke a 9-9 tie in the sixth inning and lifted fourth-ranked California Baptist University to a wild 16-12 non-conference win at Patten Wednesday afternoon.

The win is the Lancers' 12th in the past 14 games as they improve to 38-11 overall. The Lions fall to 20-23.

The Lancers erased a 9-4 deficit with an eight-run sixth, and Esquerra's three-run blast gave them the lead for good. With one out, the Lancers got two singles and then had two hitters get hit by a pitch, including one with the bases loaded. Brian Sharp hit a sac fly followed by an RBI single by Kevin Odom and a two-run double by Josh Manzano that tied the game at 9-9. After a Lion error, Esquerra delivered his clutch shot.

Manzano finished with four RBI as he also homered to lead off the eighth and then had a ninth-inning sac fly. Esquerra also had four RBI, hitting an RBI double in the Lancers' four-run second that gave them a 4-2 lead.

Drew Madrigal hit a two-run shot in the second.

Devyn Rivera worked 2.1 innings of relief, giving up just two hits. He walked four and allowed three runs (two earned) but still picked up the win to move to 8-2. Todd Jones tossed two scoreless innings striking out two for his first save.

Ryan Douglass had three hits and three RBI, including a two-RBI single in the eighth. Madrigal had three RBI.
