RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Tyler Aagard and Osvaldo Bastida were both named to the Capital One Academic All-District men's soccer team, which was announced Friday afternoon.
Aagard and Bastida were two of 14 players selected to the NCAA Division II team and were two of eight players from the Pacific West Conference. The Lancers were one of four schools (BYU-Hawaii, Grand Canyon and Seattle Pacific) to have two players on the team.
Aagard, the Lancers' right back, is a junior accounting major with a 3.44 grade point average. He has started all 17 games and has two goals, including the game-winner at Chaminade. This is his second Academic All-District selection in as many years, making him the only player in program history to earn the distinction twice.
Meanwhile, Bastida, a senior with a 3.56 GPA, is majoring in psychology. He leads the team and is fourth in the PacWest with 10 goals and 23 points. He is one of three Lancers all-time to rank in the program's top six in career goals (25), assists (18) and points (68).
Players were selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and recognized as the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
There are eight districts in all and there separate teams for NCAA Division I, II and III as well as a College Division, which includes NAIA, Canadian and junior college. District 8 includes the PacWest, California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC).
Academic All-District first team honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot. The Capital One Division II Academic All-American Team will be announced Nov. 30.
