PHOENIX, Ariz --- California Baptist University senior Osvaldo Bastida has been named Pacific West Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week.
The honor was announced by the conference office Monday for games played Oct. 17-12. Bastida becomes the second Lancer to earn the honor, joining Michael Salazar.
Bastida had a tremendous week in Hawaii, scoring five goals in four games overall. However, this past week, he had four of them in the final three games of the trip. He also had an assist and helped propel the Lancers into first place in the PacWest.
In last Wednesday's 6-0 win at BYU-Hawaii, Bastida recorded his first career hat trick and also had an assist. He had a hand in the Lancers' first four goals.
It was the Lancers' first hat trick since Tibu Casillas scored four times against UC Santa Cruz early last year.
Then, in Saturday's 2-1 win at Hawaii-Hilo to conclude the trip, Bastida scored the game-winner in the 67th minute to help the Lancers comeback from a 1-0 halftime deficit.
The Lancers became the first team this year in the PacWest to go a perfect 4-0 in Hawaii.
With his five goals on the four-game road trip, Bastida has climbed into fifth place on the Lancers' career scoring chart with 24 career goals, needing just three more to move into fourth.
Joey Pacheco and Salazar were named to the PacWest Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll.
The Lancers (11-4, 8-1 24 points) control their own destiny for the PacWest title. With three games remaining, the Lancers can take a huge step towards the title Thursday when they host second place Grand Canyon (11-3-1, 7-1-1 22 points).
Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
