KANSAS CITY, Mo. --- California Baptist University wrote another chapter in its storybook 2010 men's soccer season as sophomore Carlos Figueroa was named to the 2010 NAIA All-American second team.

Figueroa becomes just the second Lancer ever to earn All-American honors and the first since Terry Cassidy was named to the third team in 1992.

A two-time All-GSAC, Figueroa was one of five GSAC players to earn the honor. A total of 33 athletes from across the country were named to either the first, second or third team.

"This is a great honor for Carlos, and a real testament to the fact that the other coaches in the conference thought highly of him," said CBU Head Coach Ryan Jorden. "Anytime you receive an award of this nature, it speaks volumes of the team, and it falls right in line with the individual recognition we've received throughout the year."

The Lancers' starting right back, Figueroa helped lead a Lancer defensive unit that was the best in program history. As a team, the Lancers recorded a program-record 0.80 goals against average, allowed 16 goals, the fewest in program history and set a program record with 10 shutouts. CBU enjoyed its finest season in program history, going 15-5 overall, finishing second in the GSAC (8-2 with 24 points), earning its first-ever national ranking, picking up its first postseason win ever and making its first-ever appearance in the NAIA National Championship.

All four Lancer defenders were named to the All-GSAC team. Throughout the year, the Lancers had six straight weeks where someone earned GSAC Player of the Week honors. They also had three national players of the week, including two in a row on the defensive side.
