SAO PAULO, Brazil --- Playing in one of the biggest amateur tournaments in Latin America, California Baptist University's Nathalie Silva won the Gillette Cup, Brazilian Amateur tournament this week.
After finishing second the last three times she competed in the event, Silva shot 308 through four rounds this year, ending up tied with Clara Teixeira atop the leaderboard.
The two players entered a playoff to decide the Brazilian championship and after four holes Silva outplayed her country woman to take the title.
Silva and Teixeira were eight strokes up on the nearest competitor in the field. Also competing in the tournament was Daniela Murray, a fellow Division II athlete from Barry. Murray finished sixth with a 328.
The tournament was played at the Country Club of St. Paul in Sao Paulo, Brazil and was the 82nd annual Brazilian Amateur Championship.
