RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- The Lancer Aquatics Center will play home to the 2012 men's water polo Lancer Invite this weekend. This year's tournament features eight teams from six different schools and will contain 14 games over a two day span.
The Invite begins Fri., Sept. 28 at noon with a game between Riverside City College and California Baptist University's "B" team. Play will continue with five more games Friday night and eight games on Saturday, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
The Lancers will have two teams competing, an "A" team and a "B" team, and they will play in five games overall.
CBU is currently riding a two game winning streak and have won four of their last five games, for an overall record of 4-4.
The Lancers will be led into play by goalie Austen Ramer, who has 59 saves and 37 steals so far this season and Scott Gleason, who has scored in all eight games so far, for a team-leading 17 goals.
Other teams competing in the tournament are:
Concordia University ("A" and "B" teams)
The Eagles are currently 5-4 in 2012. They have lost four out of their last
five games. Three of their four wins have come against fellow Lancer Invite
competitors: Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, La Verne and Occidental College. Concordia
will play five games at the tournament.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College
The Stags begin play in the Lancer Invite on Saturday. They enter Sept. 29 with
a 1-9 record. Their one win was a 10-5 victory over La Verne on Sept. 8. The
Stags will play in two games at the tournament.
Chapman University
Chapman comes into play with a 2-11 record. They have played in a lot of close
games so far this season, losing six games by three goals or less. They are led
by Brett Carter who has 27 goals and 16 assists through 12 games in 2012. They
also join the tournament on Saturday and will play two games.
Fresno Pacific University
Fresno Pacific enters play riding a seven game winning streak for an overall
record of 7-1. Their wins have come thanks to their strong offense, led by
freshman Daniel Seymour, which has scored an 126 goals in eight games. The
Sunbirds will play four games at the Lancer Invite
Occidental College
Occidental comes to CBU looking to shake their six game losing streak. They are
2-6 overall so far in 2012. They have already played Concordia in 2012, losing
19-5 on Sept. 8. They will play in four games at the tournament.
Riverside City College
Riverside City will play in four games at the Lancer Invite. They will play CBU
"B" in the opening game on Friday.
