RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- The California Baptist University swim and dive teams sent 25 athletes to the local YMCA on Saturday, April 10.
The athletes worked with the kids giving free swim lessons and they also did a little bit of routine maintenance around the center.
"We were there giving lessons, teaching little kids how to swim," said Reese Gonzalez. "At first they were really scared, but I helped a little girl conquer her fear of the deep end."
The team was at the shelter from 10 a.m. to noon. They taught around 10 children and the rest of the time they were assisting with cleaning and other maintenance tasks.
"It was fun," said Gonzalez, a breaststroke and freestyle swimmer. "We got to teach them all the basics, like how to float."
