ST. CHARLES, Mo.--- The Lancers dove straight into their final NAIA championship tournament with a splash. California Baptist's Trevor Graifman won his second straight national championship in the three-meter board, while Jamie Flynn finished in second place in the women's one-meter board on day one of the 2011 NAIA Championships.
Graifman, who was named NAIA diver of the month earlier this year, was the prohibitive favorite to repeat. The junior didn't disappoint. His score of 342.20 was well ahead of runner-up Colin Sharpe's (Lindenwood) mark of 319.70.
The win marked CBU's sixth straight national championship in the men's three-meter board. Graifman's first place finish earned CBU 20 points, while Brandon Fries (208.35) gave the Lancers 12 points with his seventh place finish.
Flynn, who was also recognized as NAIA diver of the month earlier this season, fell just 12.65 points short of first place, giving Concordia's Christine Runkle her second straight title in the one-meter board.
CBU's Miranda King (199.80) finished fifth to add 14 points to the women's score, while Michelle Black (188.40) came in sixth place giving the Lancers another 13 points.
The two diving contests were the only events on day one. Heading into day two CBU sits at first place in both the men's (32) and women's (44) standings.
