LONG BEACH, Calif. --- The final day of the PCSC Championships saw three Lancers win conference titles. Mary Hanson completed her hat trick, winning the last of her 2011 PCSC Championships in the 100 free (50.81). The freshman won all three events she swam in at the tournament as the top ranked (NAIA) CBU women finished in second place behind UCSD.
Vicente Andrade captured his second conference title of 2011 in the 200 back (1:49.55) while Ronan Garrec won his first event of the meet (200 fly; 1:50.77) to lead the third ranked (NAIA) CBU men to a runner-up finish behind UCSD in the thirteen team tournament at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool.
On top of the Lancers’ three wins, CBU added four second place finishes and 10 additional top-5 times. The team won six individual titles in the four day tournament.
In the men’s 200 back a trio of Lancers finished in the top-5. On top of Andrade’s winning swim, Robert Nichols (1:53.58) and Taylor Kile (1:56.08) finished fourth and fifth respectively. Sergio Molina’s touch at 2:02.28 was good for second place in the 200 breast, and Matthew Chong’s time of 2:04.10 earned him fourth place.
Tai Nuntapramote had a second place time in the 200 fly (1:51.17), while the CBU men’s 400 free relay team finished in fourth (3:08.92), less than a quarter of a second behind the Concordia (3:08.68).
Stefanie Olsen opened up the day with a second place finish in the 1650 free (17:33.34) before Anna Megli touched at 17:53.99 for fourth place. Two Lancers finished in the top-5 in the women’s 200 fly. Hazel Castillo landed in third (2:07.48) while Adriana Quezada nabbed fifth (2:07.79). CBU then closed the day with a second place showing in the women’s 400 free relay 3:31.
The men’s second place finish was their best since winning the PCSC Championship in 2008. The women also had their best showing in years. The Lady Lancers last finished in the top-two in 2005, and have since been consistently out of the top-three.
CBU will have a few week break before flying to St. Peters Mo. for the NAIA National Championships that begin March 2.
