LONG BEACH, Calif. --- Mary Hanson did it again, winning her second (CBU’s third) conference title on day three of the 2011 PCSC Championships. Hanson won the 100 back (55.36) by more than a second over UC San Diego’s Anju Shimura (57.06). The Lancers had seven top three finishes, including a second place showing by Vicente Andrade in the 100 back (51.65).
CBU held on to the second spot behind UCSD in both the men’s and women’s standings. The Top ranked (NAIA) women added 286 points to their total on the day while the third ranked men (NAIA) tallied 527 points in seven events. The Lancers had top-10 finishes in all 13 contests on the day.
Trevor Graifman (345.20) was edged out by UCSD’s Tyler Runsten (374.05) in the 3-meter board to finish in second place. CBU’s Brandon Fries finished in sixth place with a total of 245.35.
In one of the closest races of the day Kevin Sellars landed in third behind two Tritons. Sellars finished with a mark of 4:00.17, but Martin Vanek (3:59.73) and Sam Duimovich (3:59.25) touched slightly ahead to take first and second in the 400 IM. Three other CBU swimmers (Brian Haney, Mitchell Spezzaferri, and Jorge Andrade) all placed in the top-10. It was one of three events where CBU outscored the UCSD men.
Tai Nuntapramote's time of 1:40.87 was good enough for third place in the 200 free and Robert Nichols nabbed third place in 100 back (51.88), just behind V. Andrade and UCSD’s Eric Owens. CBU also grabbed third in the 400 medley relay (3:25.05).
The Lady Lancers had just two top-three times in six events. In addition to Hanson’s first place finish in the 100 back CBU grabbed second place in the 400 medley relay (3:56.84). Norrah Stroh (4:37.52) had a fourth place finish in the 400 IM with Hannah Braun (4:38.33) and Adriana Quezada (4:38.55) taking sixth and seventh place respectively.
CBU will head back for one last day of the 13-team PCSC Championships at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool. It will be the Lancers final day of competitive swimming before Nationals.
