LONG BEACH, Calif. --- California Baptist University in the second day of the Active Ankle Tournament defeated Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne in a five set match.

CBU beat the Mastodons 25-19, 22-25, 25-20, 23-25, 15-13, for the fourth straight match the Lancers have won in five sets.

"I am extremely proud of the guys tonight," said Interim Head Coach Allan Vince. "We just continue to battle and never lose sight of what we are trying to accomplish. They all look to each other for confidence and support and it's amazing to see how these guys respond with everything they face."

For the second day in a row, Aaron McCalmont managed 17 kills and hit .234 on the match to lead the Lancers. Kristopher Johnson hit .360 and recorded 15 kills and eight blocks.

In the opening set, the Lancers hit a booming .522 with 14 kills on 23 attempts. The Mastodons only recorded 10 kills on 25 attempts, hitting .080.

The Mastodons took the first point in the set, but the Lancers would take it right back and would lead by as much as six throughout the game. The score was tied only three times and the lead only changed once throughout the set.

The Mastodons would respond in the second set hitting a game high .400 and only committing one attacking error. The Lancers hit .237 and had five attacking errors. The score was tied 12 times and the Mastodons lead by as much as four. McCalmont fired off a huge kill to push the score to 22-22 late in the game, but the Lancers would force two attacking errors to end the set.

The third set was the turning point of the match, as the lead changed hands seven times and the score was tied 10 times. The Lancers held the Mastodons to a hitting percentage of .026, while the Lancers managed 10 kills and hit .222 on the game. The Lancers would finish the set with four straight points, with the last point coming from a huge block by Corey Bates and Connor Metcalfe to take the set.

The Mastodons would take the victory in the fourth and push the match to five. The Lancers would come out strong in the fifth hitting .370 and only committing two attacking errors. Johnson fired off two big kills at 10-7 to give the Lancers the largest lead of the set at three.

The Lancers out blocked the Mastodons 16.5 to 4.0.

CBU moves to 10-13 on the season and will face Harvard on Tuesday at the Van Dyne Gym at 7 pm.
