LAS VEGAS, Nev. --- California Baptist University's Chris Santana won four matches, but the Lancers were only able to win once at the 2010 Desert Duals hosted by Wartburg College in Las Vegas, Nev.

The Lancers wrestled against four nationally-ranked teams, two from NCAA Division III and two from the NAIA. They opened the day with a 24-12 win over NAIA No. 6-ranked Grand View (Iowa) before falling to NCAA Division III No. 3-ranked Coe (Iowa), 32-12, NCAA Division III No. 1-ranked Wartburg (Iowa), 40-7, and NAIA No. 15-ranked Morningside (Iowa), 27-17, in the finale.

CBU has wrestled six nationally-ranked teams in its first seven duals of the season.

Santana went a perfect 4-0 at 149, winning his first two by one-point decisions. He then picked up a 7-4 win over Wartburg's Jacob Groth and then earned a major decision, 12-4, over Josh Truckenmiller of Morningside.

Jimmy Martinez won three of his four matches, two by major decision and one by fall, at 125. Caleb Gerl also won three times at 197, earning a decision, a major decision and a fall. Bronson Gerl (157) and Alex Evers (heavyweight) each won twice.

The Lancers are now 2-5 on the season and will compete in the prestigious Midlands Invitational in Evanston, Ill., Dec. 29-30. They resume dual match action Jan. 21, hosting the CBU Duals I with San Francisco State and Grand Canyon (Ariz.).
