RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- With season starting right around the corner on Sept. 4, the PacWest released the preseason selections Tuesday, predicting California Baptist University to finish third in the conference. Along with the predicted order of teams finishing, senior Paul Oliver was named to the Preseason All-PacWest Team.
Last year the Lancers finished in third place with a 10-6-1 overall and 9-3 conference record. CBU went on to appear in its first-ever NCAA Division II Championship as the lone PacWest school.
Oliver was a key member of the Lancers' back four, helping CBU boast seven shutouts on the season. As one of the Lancers’ starting center backs, Oliver helped anchor a defense that posted six conference shutouts, tying for the top spot in the PacWest. CBU boasted a 0.90 goals against average against PacWest teams, conceding 11 goals.
"Paul is one of our hardest working players, he helps lead the team in that regard." said head coach Gregg Schroeder. "He’s had a lot of experience and he’s played a lot of different roles for this team and we’re excited to see how he uses his gifts to impact the team."
The defender also contributed to the Lancers' offense, grabbing two assists on the season to end the year with four points.
CBU kicks off the 2014 season with its first official game on Sept. 4, hosting University of La Verne at 1:00 p.m.
