RIVERSIDE, Calif. – California Baptist University announced the promotion of Sammi Sheppard to Director of Sports Information Thursday, nearly one year after she joined the Lancers as an assistant sports information director in September of 2013.
“I’m extremely grateful of CBU President Dr. Ronald L. Ellis, Vice President Kent Dacus and Director of Athletics Dr. Micah Parker for giving me this opportunity,” said Sheppard. “I’m excited to continue to grow alongside Lancer athletics, as we head into our second season in NCAA Division II.”
Sheppard previously held sports information positions at Division II institutions San Francisco State and Humboldt State. She came to CBU to guide Lancers sports information through their first season as a fully-fledged NCAA Division II member in 2013-14. She handled media relations for men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s volleyball, softball and cheer teams, as well as all the other Lancer programs while the department searched for its second assistant sports information director from October to January.
“I’m excited to announce Sammi’s promotion to Director of Sports Information,” Dr. Parker said. “She has demonstrated a commitment to Lancer athletics and a desire to have our sports information department reflect excellence.”
In addition to her responsibilities at CBU, Sheppard oversaw the judging of collegiate women’s basketball media guides for the College Sports Information Directors of America Publications Committee this past athletic year. This spring, she will also be a member of the Daktronics, Inc. NCAA Division II Softball Committee.
The Lancers hosted a number of special events with Sheppard’s assistance in 2013-14, from men’s basketball’s Ayres Inn & Suites CBU Classic, to wrestling’s first outdoor CBU Duals and a live televised men’s basketball game against Hawaii-Hilo on Fox Sports West.
There’s more to come in 2014-15, as the Lancers host the GNAC-PacWest Women’s Volleyball Crossover from Sept. 11-13, another outdoor wrestling dual and another televised basketball game – date yet to be announced.
