RIVERSIDE, Calif. — According to the PacWest Preseason Poll and all-conference list, it looks like history will repeat itself in the upcoming women’s soccer season.

Last year, California Baptist University came up just shy of a conference title after being edged out by rival Azusa Pacific. The Lancers finished the year 12-5-1 overall and 10-2 in the PacWest.

If the PacWest coaches’ predictions are right, senior defender Silvia Sanchez will repeat as Defensive Player of the Year and Kimberly Allard will earn the Player of the Year award.

Sanchez finished the 2013 season with six assists, tying her for second among all PacWest players, as she earned first team conference honors. She helped the Lancers grab nine shutouts on the year and concede just 12 goals to boast a 0.65 goals against average.

The PacWest Preseason Player of the Year, Allard, earned first team All-PacWest honors last year and finished the season with three goals, including two game-winners, and six assists. In 2011, Allard was named the Freshman of the Year and has continued to be an offensive threat for the Lancers as she heads into her senior season.

Joining both Sanchez and Allard on the Preseason All-PacWest Team was sophomore Rachel Witz. After an impressive collegiate debut, Witz earned her first all-conference honor by finishing the year with three goals and three assists.

“It’s always flattering to have the team and individual players nominated for awards," said head coach Kristen St. Clair. "Kim, Silvia and Rachel had a tremendous season last year and they are deserving of this recognition. Every season is a fresh start and we are focused now on getting the performance and the results that we want this season.”

Sanchez, Allard, Witz and the rest of the CBU women’s soccer team kick off the 2014 season on Sept. 4 at 3:30 p.m. as the Lancers host non-conference opponent Cal State Stanislaus.
