RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- After securing a berth into the NCAA Division II postseason, California Baptist University will look to make progress in its second year as a fully-fledged NCAA member in 2014-15.
The Lancers--who finished the regular season ranked 14th in Division II, sixth in the region and had a top-10 national finisher overall--are scheduled for 10 regular-season competitions, with the NCAA playoffs also looming. CBU won half of its eight tournaments in the 2013-14 regular season and returns to all four of those events this upcoming year under second-year coach John Hackney.
CBU opens things up with a pair of tournaments in September. It all beings with the Lancers looking to repeat as champions of the PLNU Fall Preview, which is scheduled for Sept. 15-16 at the Torrey Pines Golf Course. From there, they head to the WNMU Fall Intercollegiate on Sept. 22-23.
Two October trips to Florida wrap up the fall season for the Lancers. They play the Guy Harvey Invitational and Saint Leo Invitational on Oct. 6-7 and 20-21, respectively.
A near four-month hiatus ends for CBU on Feb. 16-17 when it attends the Super San Diego Championship, with intentions of defending that tournament title at the Riverwalk Golf Club. The next week, the Lancers host their own tournament at the Victoria Club on Feb. 23-24, looking to defend their home course for the second year in a row.
In March, CBU will play at the Augustana College Spring Fling Invitational and Mustang Intercollegiate. The Spring Fling is a new addition for the Lancers on March 19-20, while they placed third at the Mustang Intercollegiate in 2013-14.
CBU concludes the regular season at the Sonoma State Spring Invitational on April 6-7, where it claimed the fall title in 2013. This year, the spring tournament will serve as a playoff prepper, as it is hosted at the Foxtail Golf Club -- the same course of the NCAA Division II Super West Regionals.
The Lancers will look to qualify for the regionals at the PacWest Championships, hosted by Dixie State at the Sunbrook Golf Club, on April 20-22. Last season, CBU finished second in the PacWest, the program's best finish since joining the conference in 2012-13.
When it comes to the postseason, the Super West Regional is scheduled for May 3-5, while the Division II Championship will take play May 13-16 at the Meadows Golf Course in Allendale, Mich. After qualifying an individual for the Division II Championship last year, the Lancers hope to send more athletes this year.
