BELMONT, Calif. --- Overcoming a slow start, California Baptist University turned up the pace in the second half to power through to a 76-59 victory over Notre Dame de Namur Monday night.

The Lancers improve to an even 4-4 PacWest record and 6-8 on the season with the win, while the Argonauts drop to 3-11 overall and 2-6 against conference opponents.

“I'm really happy with the way the girls played on this road trip,” said head coach Jarrod Olson. “We had contributions from a lot of people which shows the depth of our team.”

Reigning PacWest Freshman of the Week Kamille Diaz continued on a tear as she registered 22 points on the night off 7-of-18 shooting from the field, 5-of-13 from beyond the arc and a perfect 3-of-3 at the charity stripe.

“Kamille really got going in the second half and her teammates did a great job of finding her,” said Olson. “I was really proud of our bench as they really gave us a big lift after a slow start to the game.”

Coming off the bench, Elise Shelton followed with 11 points (5-of-11), along with Megan Brown’s 11-point (4-of-9) performance. Erin Asher rounded out the four Lancers in double figures after picking up 10 points (4-of-8, 2-of-2 free throws).

CBU opened the contest in a 6-0 hole, but regained composure as the Lancers put the game within two at 6-4. The visitors continued on to tie the game at 11-11 off a layup from Shelton, but couldn’t quite take over the lead just yet.

Trailing 21-17, Brown bucketed two points and added another two just 20 seconds later after the Lancers forced the Argonauts to relinquish possession of the ball. CBU forced another NDNU turnover 14 seconds later to take its first lead of the night as Cassidy Mihalko hit a shot from distance to put CBU out front 24-21.

The Argonauts ended the 7-0 run with a basket in the paint, but couldn’t maintain possession while on offense. The Lancers took advantage of NDNU’s mishandling of the ball, extending their lead to seven points at 30-23.

NDNU scored four points to put the game within one possession at 30-27, but CBU finished the first frame with an 8-0 run as Chanel Cambronero finished her shot from beyond the arc to initiate the scoring spree. Shelton completed a put-back after rebounding her own missed shot and Diaz sank a three with 12 seconds remaining in the half to give CBU a 38-27 lead at the break.

After forcing nine turnovers in the first half—and only surrendering the ball twice—CBU opened the second half with another NDNU turnover as Brown stole the ball from Maya Arellanes. Ashley Jones capitalized on the Argonauts’ mishap, driving to the basket to give CBU a 40-27 upper hand.

NDNU tried to collect itself offensively and cut the Lancers’ lead back into single digits at 40-33, but Diaz hit another three to put her squad back in front by 10 points.

CBU opened its lead up to 16 points, again forcing NDNU to turn over the ball as Diaz stole it and finished a three-pointer. The Argonauts responded and found a basket at 7:19 to end the Lancers’ scoring rampage and added another shot from downtown to trail by 13, 64-51.

Olson called a brief team meeting and Cambronero came out to rattle her jump shot through the hoop and put CBU in front 66-51.

Down the stretch, the Lancers kept off the Argonauts and sailed through to a 76-59 victory to complete the series sweep.

CBU returns home to host Dixie State on Saturday at 5:00 p.m., looking to build on the momentum gained over the past two games on the road.
