ORANGE, Calif. --- California Baptist University finished out its regular season competition in the Biola Invitational Saturday where both the men and women’s team placed eighth overall.
Garrett Williams led the CBU men with a personal best time of 26:31.7 and finishing 24th overall. Miles Sustayta followed closely behind Williams finishing 26th overall with a personal best time of 26:35.3.
The Lancer men finished eighth out of 14 total competitors with 114 runners in all their 8k event.
“I was very pleased with the effort put forth from the men today,” said CBU Head Coach Ben Gall. “These were all freshman and sophomores that competed today, which bodes well for our program's in the future.”
Senior, Kimberly Carter, led the CBU women with her recorded time of 19:46.5, a 44 second improvement from last years time on the same course. Carter tallied 40 points and finished 43rd of 143 total runners.
Alysa Avila trailed behind Carter finishing in the 50th spot with a time of 20:03.5 and 44 points total.
Millie Leitich, Megan Smedley, and Alexys Estrada rounded out the women’s Top 5 bringing the Lancer women to an eighth place finish out of 16 total teams.
The CBU women recorded 254 points in all, defeating conference competitor Point Loma by 11 points in the 5k run.
“We were excited to see them defeat the top team from Point Loma who is in the conference,” said Gall. “This indicated the strength and depth of our team that we can run competitively with the other conference teams regardless of which athletes are representing us.”
The Lancers’ will head to the PacWest Championship in San Rafael, Calif., on Nov. 2. The CBU men will be defending their two-time PacWest title and the women will be competing for first after their second place finish in last year’s championship meet.
