SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- California Baptist University's contingent of six wrestlers combined to lead the Lancers' to the team title at the first-ever National Collegiate Wrestling Association State Championship Saturday afternoon.

The four team tournament was hosted on the campus of UC Santa Barbara, and each of the six Lancers won their respective weight classes.

"I'm proud of the guys," said CBU Assistant Coach Gabe Ruhkala, who was leading the squad while Head Coach John Petty was with another group of Lancers at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. "They all worked hard and dominated their matches. These guys work hard every day in practice, and it is good for them to go out have success."

The Lancers went 17-1 on the day with the only loss coming when Zak Kear defeated Paul Miller in an exhibition.

Bradley Topliff (133), Paul Miller (141), Zak Kear (149), Nadim Batshon (157), Kenneth Tribble (174) and Anthony Meza (197) each won their weight classes. Topliff had three falls, Tribble had two. Both Miller and Batshon registered one fall.

The Lancers tallied 59 teams points to defeat San Jose State (52), UC Santa Barbara (39) and UC Irvine (0).
