KANSAS CITY, Mo. --- California Baptist University had six teams earn NAIA Scholar Team awards as announced by the NAIA National Office Tuesday afternoon.
The Lancers’ women’s cross country team topped CBU’s list with a 3.56 team GPA. Also receiving recognition was women’s distance track (3.49), softball (3.44), women’s swimming and diving (3.23), men’s golf (3.22) and women’s golf (3.05). It is the second straight honor for women’s cross country as they had a 3.46 GPA in 2008-09.
A record total of 857 teams from across 23 NAIA sports received the award. Biola and Hastings (Neb.) had the most teams represented by school with 16 apiece. Women’s basketball had the highest number per sport with 78 teams.
For a team to be considered, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average as defined by the institution. The team grade point average must include all varsity student-athletes certified as eligible.
