SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- In their first game of the UC San Diego Invitational on Saturday, No. 17 California Baptist University fell to No. 11 UC Irvine, 18-3. In their second game of the tournament, the Lancers knocked off No. 16 Indiana 10-9. The Lancers are now 5-2 on the season.
The Lancers' first game of the day started off slowly, as the UCI only held a 3-1 advantage over CBU at the end of the first quarter. The Anteaters quickly took control of the game however, running away with a decisive win over the Lancers. CBU fared far better against IU, however. The Lancers jumped out to a 3-1 lead over the Hoosiers in the first quarter, and stretched their lead to three, 6-3, by halftime. The Hoosiers cut the Lancer lead back to two by the end of the third quarter, with CBU taking a 8-6 lead into the final period. CBU tacked on another pair of goals in the fourth quarter, while IU added two, giving the Lancers the one-point win. Jennifer Grutz, Collette Brown and Alyssa Birch each had a pair of goals in the Lancers' win. Camryn Rogers snagged 11 saves in the goal for CBU. CBU will be back in action on Saturday in Bakersfield, Calif., at the Roadrunner Invitational. The Lancers take on Pacific at 12:05 p.m., then face off against Santa Clara at 3:20 p.m. |
