RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Three California Baptist University Lancers made impressions on coaches during the season as Savannah Miller, Krista Mann and Marshean August were each named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-West Region teams, as announced Thursday.
The trio each earned second-team honors—the first NFCA Division II recognitions for all three athletes—to go along with their Daktronics All-West Region honors announced earlier this week. Softball coaches from the NCAA Division II West Region vote on the NFCA all-region accolades.
Miller finished the year with CBU's second-highest average, batting at .398 on the season. In her 68 hits, she hit 17 doubles, three triples and four long balls to score 51 runs and grab 47 RBIs. The junior catcher led the Lancers with 33 walks on the year and a .500 on-base percentage.
Mann ended her breakout collegiate debut with a team-high .434 average off 82 hits, ranking in the NCAA Division II's top-40 hitters. The freshman shortstop knocked 10 home runs, 15 doubles and three triples to score 61 runs and bat in 54 others. She picked up four PacWest Freshman of the Week honors and found a spot on the all-conference first team.
August concluded her four-year career at CBU with a .355 average where she led the team with 71 runs scored and 16 stolen bases. The senior outfielder hit 12 homers and 15 doubles on the season, second most on the team, and accumulated 51 RBIs.
CBU finished the season 46-13 with a 27-5 PacWest record to take home the Lancers' second conference title in the three short years CBU has been affiliated with the PacWest. CBU went on to compete in its first-ever NCAA Division II Championship Tournament, making it to the West Regional I finale after a 3-2 record on the weekend--the most NCAA postseason wins a CBU program has accumulated yet.
