RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Ryan Berg keeps racking up the awards in his breakout collegiate season, grabbing his fifth Hawaii Tourism Authority PacWest Freshman of the Week honor of the year for games played Feb. 3-9, as announced Monday.
The freshman guard earned his second-consecutive recognition by continuing to be one of the best shooters in the PacWest. He averaged 22.5 points per game, knocking down nine total three-pointers, to lift No. 13-ranked California Baptist University to two wins.
A week ago, Berg finished the night with 27 points, shooting 10-for-10 from the free throw line, helping the Lancers claim an 83-72 victory over Hawaii Pacific. Back in Van Dyne Gym for a rematch with the team that gave CBU its only loss of the season, Berg helped the Lancers defeat Azusa Pacific 74-55 to improve to 20-1 overall and hold a two-game edge in the standings over Chaminade.
The Lancers face No. 2 seed Chaminade on Thursday, looking to keep the Silverswords at a good distance as the road to the PacWest Conference Tournament decreases in length. The two squads tip off at 7:30 p.m.
CBU then hosts Hawaii-Hilo on Saturday in front of an already sold out crowd and nationally televised audience. The 7:30 p.m. contest will be featured on Fox Sports West. For listings, check out: msn.foxsports.com/tv-listings.
