RIVERSIDE, Calif., --- The PacWest named California Baptist University’s Bryton Reim as the men’s cross country Runner and Newcomer of the Year for the 2013 season. The honors come in the same week Reim picks up National Athlete of the Week recognition.

Reim has had an outstanding season, leading the Lancers’ in four of his five events and breaking the CBU 8k record in the Bronco Invitational with a recorded time of 24:09.3.

Reim finished first in the PacWest Championship Saturday in Novato, Calif., which led him to the honorary awards. He recorded a time of 26:00.4 in the 8k event amongst 69 other runners and led the Lancers’ to their third consecutive PacWest Men’s Cross Country Championship.

CBU Head Coach Ben Gall was also named Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year for the second year in a row. Gall has led the men’s team to PacWest Championship’s both years since the start of his residency with the Lancers’ Athletics in 2012.

The PacWest announced the all-conference selections, putting five male and five female Lancers on the All-PacWest teams. Reim, Sergion Rodriguez and Tyler Dutchover each picked up first team honors, while Mitchell Moore and Taylor Guske were named to the second and third team, respectively.

Kim Rabenstein, who earned PacWest Freshman of the Year, and Natalie Bell picked up first team All-PacWest honors for the women. Naomi Van Setten and Alexandra Vukov earned spots on the second team and Jessica Malagon rounded out the CBU women with a place on the third team.

The Lancers will be competing in the NCAA West Regional meet Nov. 9 followed by the NCAA National Championship Nov. 23.
