SAN DIEGO --- After day one of the Pacific West Conference Championships, CBU’s track team was able to hold on to a steady spot. The men’s team finished in third place and the women’s team finished in fifth after the first day of events.
CBU also had one conference champion and five All-PacWest performances on opening day.
Naomi Van Setten was the big story for the Lancers on day one. Van Setten won the 3,000-meter steeplechase, defeating seven other competitors from multiple PacWest schools. Van Setten finished with an outstanding time of 10:57.09.
Jacquie Lutz also contributed to the Lancers' strong day, finishing second in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 38:34.72. Lutz defeated seven other runners along the way.
On the men’s side, Chase Williams qualified in the 800 meters as well. His time of 1:56.87 was good enough to help him earn a second place spot on day one. His time was only a half second shy of being the top qualifier.
Bryton Reim ran an impressive 10,000 meters and finished third overall out of 14 runners. His time of 33:22.59 was good enough for Reim to receive All-PacWest honors.
“Our whole season has been geared towards performing at this meet" said CBU Head Coach Ben Gall. “To have one conference champion and five all-conference performances on the first day was very exciting.”
