RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- California Baptist University closed out a four-game offensive explosion Saturday afternoon, blasting UH-Hilo for a combined 34 runs in a doubleheader sweep.
CBU wasted no time getting going, reaching safely on its first 11 batters of the day to go up 11-0 in the first inning and ride the lead to a 22-1 win in the opener. The Lancers came right back to close things out with a 12-0 victory in the late game.
CBU posted a combined 31 hits on the day, getting seven doubles, one triple and three home runs.
The Lancers scored in all but two innings and had seven players post multi-hit games in the opener.
Esquerra posted two homers on the day, giving him a team best 10 on the season. Moore also went deep in the opener, giving him three in the last four games and seven on the year.
CBU got right back to work after the break in games, scoring in the first three innings to take a 7-0 lead. The Lancers blasted 16 hits in the seven inning game.
Esquerra and Cathers each had three RBI in the game and Daugherty went 3 for 4 at the plate.
The Lancers used three pitchers in the opener, getting three innings out of starter David Herd before turning it over to Cody Wetherbee with a 13-0 lead. Wetherbee went four innings, giving up just two hits to take the win and move to 2-0. Ethan Mack gave up one hit in the final two innings.
Jon Bengard got the bulk of the work in the late game, throwing five innings of two-hit ball to move his record to a perfect 6-0 on the season.
CBU improves its record to 21-9 overall, 14-2 PacWest with the pair of wins, while UHH falls to 7-29, 7-23.
