LA JOLLA, Calif. --- CBU continued its impressive track season today at the Cal-Nevada Championships at UC San Diego.
Jennifer Mallen was easily the highlight of the night for the Lancers. Mallen finished first in the 10,000m run and beat 18 other runners. Her time of 36:13.72 ended up being a school record and happened to only be two seconds shy of the stadium record. Mallen’s impressive time also qualifies her for the NCAA’s.
Lexi Vukov finished fifth for the Lancers in the 800m run and posted a time of 2:14.72. Despite having a solid time, Vukov miss the qualifying time by .3 seconds.
Jacquie Lutz clocked a time of 18:12.31 and placed 15th in the 5,000m run defeating 20 other runners.
Another notable race today was Jessica Reeder’s finish in the 400m hurdles. Reeder finished in sixth place and posted a strong time of 67.55 for CBU.
Chase Williams ended up being the headline on the men’s side today. Williams’ time of 1:55.03 in the 800m run helped him get through the preliminaries and advance into tomorrow’s finals.
Daniel Swann didn’t qualify for tomorrow’s 800m but he still finished with a solid time of 2:05.33 for the Lancer men.
The men finished off the night running as a pack in the 5,000m run. Victor Delgado (15:12.54), Mark Lamgworthy (15:17.38) and Chris Cline (15:23.05) finished 23,24 and 25th in the race and defeated multiple fellow PacWest competitors.
“The highlight of the night was Jennifer’s 10k win,” Said CBU Head Coach Ben Gall. “Setting a new school record and a NCAA qualifying mark is always exciting, the team continues to improve and is executing their race plans better each week. We’re excited and looking forward to another great day tomorrow.”
The Lancers run again tomorrow in the last day of the Cal-Nevada Championships.
