RIVERSIDE --- Simone Holmes of California Baptist University was named the NCCAA women’s basketball 2012-13 NCCAA Player of the Year this week.
The senior guard from Phoenix, Ariz. helped lead CBU to a PacWest Championship and a 25-6 record over the course of the 2012-13 season.
She averaged 27.8 minutes per game for the Lancers this season and led the team in points per game with 15.6. Holmes also led the team in steals with 75 on the season and finished third on the team in blocks with 12.
Holmes scored 20 points and recorded six steals in the championship game this season against Southern Nazarene, leading CBU on a run at the NCCAA tournament that fell just two points shy of a title. She averaged a team-best 19.6 ppg in five post season games this year, grabbing 19 steals along the way.
Holmes was also named to the All-PacWest team previously this year and ended her career at CBU being named to the NCCAA All-Tournament Team. She was also NCCAA West Region Player of the Year.
