Esquerra had a monster week, leading CBU to a four-game series sweep of Academy of Art to start the Pacific West Conference season. He hit .750 (9 for 12) and also reached base five other times (four walks and one hit-by-pitch). Esquerra also had eight RBIs, scored seven runs, hit two doubles, a triple, two home runs and two stolen bases.
Esquerra had three two-hit games and one three-hit game in the four-game series.
On the season, Esquerra is leading the Lancers and is second in the PacWest, hitting .419. He also leads the PacWest with five home runs. Twelve of his 26 hits this year have come in the past five games.
Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members have official votes in the Howser Award Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting.
