OAKLAND, Calif. --- Luke Esquerra came up clutch Saturday, hitting a pair of game-winning home runs to lead California Baptist University to a doubleheader sweep of Academy of Art, which also finished off a Pacific West Conference-opening series sweep of the Urban Knights as well.

Esquerra hit a solo shot in the top of the sixth of the opener to break a 5-5 tie and lead the Lancers to an 8-5 win. He came back with a two-run shot in the fifth of the nightcap to break a 2-2 tie and the Lancers to an 8-2 victory. Both games were seven innings.

The defending PacWest Champion Lancers (11-7, 4-0) have now won six straight and eight of nine.

The Urban Knights fall to 1-14, 0-8.

Esquerra and his brother Zach combined to go 6 for 7, driving in five runs in the nightcap. Zach led off the fourth with a solo shot to give the Lancers a short-lived 2-1 lead. After the Urban Knights tied it in the bottom of the fourth, pinch-hitter Travis Sais led off the fifth with a base hit, and Luke followed with his second bomb of the day.

Adam Hofacket started and gave up just one earned run in 3.2 innings of work. Cody Wetherbee (1-0) worked 2.1 innings of scoreless relief for the win.

The Esquerra's weren't the only Lancers with multiple hits. Matt Daugherty was 2 for 4 with an RBI double in the seventh. Luke (3 for 4) also had an RBI single in the sixth to make it 5-2, and he finished with four RBIs.

In the opener, a three-run fifth by the Urban Knights erased a 4-2 CBU lead and put the Lancers in a hole. However, Andy Crowley led off the sixth and later scored on a sac fly from pinch-hitter Sais. Luke Esquerra, who had one hit in his first eight bats of the series, then homered to left to make it 6-5. Ryan Cathers and Matt Marnati hit back-to-back singles, and Zach Esquerra hit a two-RBI double to make it 8-5.

Cathers was 3 for 5, including an RBI double in the fourth to give the Lancers a 4-2 lead.

Caleb Dirks started and went 4.1 innings, striking out eight. He got charged with three earned runs and scattered five hits before being lifted with one out in the fifth.

With Dirks gone, Stefan Henderson hit an RBI double off reliever Michael Davis (1-1), and Kevin Decker delivered a two-out, two-RBI single to push three runs across in the bottom of the fifth. Davis, though, settled in after that and got the win in relief, allowing one run and striking out two in 2.2 innings.

The Lancers scored twice in the first after Cathers and Marnati hit back-to-back singles. Cathers scored when Marnati stole second and Kevin Decker's throw sailed into center field. Marnati scored on Zach Esquerra's groundout to short. The Urban Knights, though, tied it with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first.

Marnati had two hits and scored twice. Zach Esquerra was 2 for 4 with three RBIs. He went a combined 5 for 7 with four RBIs in the sweep.
